The CIA investigated whether Adolf Hitler was alive in South America as late as 1955, newly-declassified JFK documents reveal.

An informant told agents the Nazi leader survived World War II and was living in Colombia in the 1950s.

The CIA source, whose code name was Cimelody-3, claimed the former Fuhrer was alive and that an ex-SS agent named Phillip Citroen had been in touch with him in the city of Tunja.

The file, written by Caracas bureau chief David Brixnor, was wired to Washington in 1955 alongside the picture.

CIA memos make it clear the agency was aseptically of this report, calling it a “fantastic” story and “an apparent fantasy.”

The documents add Hitler, who would have been aged 66, had worked as a shipping company employee before fleeing to Argentina.

Hitler committed suicide by gunshot and cyanide poisoning in a bunker, as the Soviet army rushed Berlin on April 30, 1945.
