Playing DnD is a great escape from everyday life. We all have to walk around being normal all day, it’s exhausting. We have to say things people expect us to say and do things people expect us to do. We go to work on time and leave when it’s appropriate. We do the dishes walk the dog and wash our sheets every now and again. We exercise every now and again because we know it makes us feel better. We do all these things because we know we should. There is a sense of obligation in place.
DnD is a break from all that. We get to be barbarians with a thirst for action, bards with mystical abilities, dwarves with special ancestral knowledge, and monks with pondering abilities that far outweigh our own. We can be anyone we want to be for a few hours– released from the shackles of our own personalities.
