Workplace asks employee to clock out for 30 minute lunch break but requires them to continue working: ‘If you are working, you have to be paid’ #Fun

The thing about a break is that you don’t have to work. That’s kind of the very definition of a break. You get a couple of minutes where you don’t have to think about your job. Your responsibilities are on hold, you’re not needed, and you can think about something else. Plus, you can do anything you want on a break. Maybe you’ll just use it to eat lunch, but heck, you could go jump rope in the park for 30 minutes if you wanted to. You could work on your novel. You could go pet every dog you see on the sidewalk. You could call your mom and ask her how she’s doing.

The point is that the time is your time. You can use it as you please because you are released from your duties. This certainly doesn’t mean that you should be working while you’re on your break. Then, by definition, it’s not a break.

There’s nothing like taking the day to pamper yourself. Whether you’re going all out and getting a scrub down at a day spa or you’re slapping some cream on your face in the bathroom mirror, it’s important that you treat yourself every now and again. You put so much effort into your job, into your family, into your hobbies that it’s easy to forget yourself. You wake up feeling tired and drink an extra cup of coffee to compensate, neglecting to address the underlying problems.

What can help turn this around are rest days. Not just days when you catch up on chores and end up deep cleaning your entire house, but actual rest days. This can mean lounging in bed with a good book, getting lost in its pages, and ignoring the time of day. It can mean spending all afternoon petting your dog (he wouldn’t mind that). Or it can mean sitting back with a good list of memes.

30+ Dad Memes for Fathers Who Have Mastered Dad-hood #Fun

Give it up for the dads. I love dad culture. It’s similar to Midwest culture. It revolved around corny jokes, preparing meat, and not taking things too seriously. I love it when a dad does a bit with a server at a restaurant. It’s like hearing a cow say “moo.” Even better when you see them click tongs twice before using them since those are the rules. And best yet when a dad texts you something out of the blue that makes them think of you. Maybe it was a song or a reminder that you should rotate your tires every 6 months. It’s how you know he’s looking out for you.

Being a dad can mean a lot of things. First and foremost, it’s about rearing a child (aka doling out un-asked for advice and folksy wisdom). Then, it’s about embracing your soft side (aka being against adopting a dog and then eventually becoming its best friend). And finally, it’s about getting a little goofy (aka having a dad joke ready for every subject).

‘They treated me like a child’: Store manager takes employees’ phones away at the start of each shift, won’t let them access it until break #Fun

Having your phone at work is one of the things that keeps you tethered to your own humanity. It’s what helps you feel like you’re not living in the TV show Severance. You can send off a text to a friend, or you can look at a picture of your dog… all to prevent you from getting too lonely and work-brained. This, of, course, is not to be taken advantage of.

You don’t want to spend all day on your phone or else you’re probably not getting any work done. But checking your email every now and again to see if any incredible, life-altering news has come through? Necessary, if you ask me. Not to mention if you have a family that relies on you. If you’re unable to check your phone, it might put you in a bad spot, and you might miss something important. There are always exceptions to this, depending on what kind of job you have, but if it’s not life or death, I believe in having the freedom to keep your phone on your person.

The Betz Mystery Sphere Revisited: A 50-Year Search for Answers #Paranormal

Not every mystery begins with flashing lights in the sky or eerie radio transmissions from space. Some arrive in the most unassuming ways, like a silent, seamless metal sphere resting in the grass. When the Betz family discovered just such an object on their Florida property in 1974, they could not have predicted that their curiosity would ignite a media firestorm, government interest, and decades of wild speculation. What at first seemed like a lost piece of machinery or an old cannonball soon defied expectations. It rolled in ways that defied gravity, vibrated when exposed to music, and even appeared…

30+ Darling Dog Memes for Canine Enthusiasts (January 16, 2025) #Fun

Have you ever heard people say that dogs look like their owners? I find this to be incredibly true, even though it doesn’t make biological sense. You don’t share any DNA with your dog child, but they still might carry your sensibilities and mannerisms. Or maybe we’re just more likely to choose dogs that already look a little bit like us to begin with.

Or maybe you just slowly meld into each other until you become one entity because you spend so much time together. Another piece of evidence is that dogs really are our family members. They live with us, they’re dependent on us, and we put them on the family Holiday card. If that doesn’t make you family, I don’t know what does. Rather than children, though, I like to think of dogs as adult figures all their own. Imagine saying, “Mom won’t let me go the party, but I bet if I ask Ollie he would let me go. He’s always wagging his tail agreeably.” Now that’s what I call family dynamics.

How Dogs Were Implicated During The Salem Witch Trials #Paranormal

Bridget Marshall: I teach a course on New England witchcraft trials, and students always arrive with varying degrees of knowledge of what happened in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. Nineteen people accused of witchcraft were executed by hanging, another was pressed to death and at least 150 were imprisoned in conditions that caused the death of at least five more innocents. Each semester, a few students ask me about stories they have heard about dogs. In 17th century Salem, dogs were part of everyday life: People kept dogs to protect themselves, their homes and their livestock, to help with hunting, and…

If you celebrate Christmas, odds are that you went a little, as they say, hard in the paint when it comes to food. The holidays to me are nothing without food. It’s my one chance a year to be as decadent as I want to and not feel bad about it. Bring on the loaded baked potatoes, the cheese dip, the shortbread cookies, and the carrot cake. I’ll take it straight to the dome. It’s Christmas, I don’t care. I think this is a healthy attitude. You have to let yourself purely enjoy something every once in a while, you can’t have impulse control 365 days of the year.

But if you’re anything like me, you might be experiencing a bit of a comedown after the festivities. Maybe you’re only wearing loose-fitting clothing. Maybe you’re taking your dog for an extra-long walk. Or maybe you’re still sitting on your parent’s couch, scrolling memes, letting the good times roll.

Pets of Agent 007: Animals Were Turned into Spies and Saboteurs #Paranormal

The death of a spy is rarely newsworthy, due to the secrecy surrounding it. But when a white beluga whale suspected of spying for Moscow was found dead in Norwegian waters in September, the animal soon became a minor celebrity. Hvaldimir (a play on the Norwegian word for whale, hval, and the first name of Russian president) was even given an official autopsy by the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries. The whale had been uncovered as a spy in 2019, and is one in a long line of animals which have been used by the intelligence services. Among them was a…

It’s no secret that the holidays are always chaotic, especially if you’re hosting. Between juggling meal prep, keeping guests entertained, and making sure everyone doesn’t argue over politics at the dinner table, it can feel like you’re never going to make it through the season. But in the spirit of giving, let’s not forget about the real stars of the holidays. Our pets. Whether they’re begrudgingly wearing reindeer antlers for the family photo or tearing into the presents you bought specifically for them, our furry friends are a crucial part of the festivities.

If you’re like me, you probably go out of your way to find the perfect holiday gift for your pet—a squeaky toy, a cozy blanket, or maybe just a giant bone. But what happens when someone decides to mess with your fur baby’s holiday joy? That’s exactly what happened to one woman whose brother’s family “borrowed” her dog’s favorite toy he’s had since puppyhood. Now, with the toy still missing a year later, she’s put her foot down and told them they’re not welcome this Christmas. Was she right to protect her dog’s happiness, or did she take things too far? Keep scrolling for the full story.

30+ Memes Worth Celebrating #Fun

I love a good party, and I’m in luck because this time of year it seems there are more parties than ever. Everyone’s hosting dinners and holiday parties and making plans to go ice skating. I love any little event that takes me out of the drudgery of normal life. A chance to do my hair and wear a festive outfit? Count me in. A reason to sip champagne with my friends? Already there, pal. An opportunity to make cookies and bring them to someone’s house? Talk about my idea of a good time.

But celebration doesn’t have to mean a big party. It can be small, like rewarding yourself with takeout Thai food and a good movie. Or taking your dog for an extra long walk. Or drinking coffee with your roommate in the morning. All these things can be a celebration. Including, and maybe most importantly, scrolling a good old-fashioned meme list.

While it is never an easy topic to talk about, there are some places that dogs simply shouldn’t be—even if they’re considered to be some kind of service animal. Although sometimes it is just a matter of personal preference, there can be good reasons not to allow dogs in certain places even when they’re outdoors.

However, that never stops some dog owners from taking their pets where they please. This can be a contentious thing no matter what, but it becomes an extra level of controversy when people assign their canine friends as emotional support animals. This was the crux of the issue in a recent video, in which a woman on a hiking trail was branded a Karen for pointing out to a couple with an emotional support dog that it was not allowed on the path they were on. Some people were angry at her insistence, but others believed that she had a point.

Neuroscientist Teaches Lab Rats to Drive #Paranormal

Kelly Lambert: We crafted our first rodent car from a plastic cereal container. After trial and error, my colleagues and I found that rats could learn to drive forward by grasping a small wire that acted like a gas pedal. Before long, they were steering with surprising precision to reach a Froot Loop treat. As expected, rats housed in enriched environments – complete with toys, space and companions – learned to drive faster than those in standard cages. This finding supported the idea that complex environments enhance neuroplasticity: the brain’s ability to change across the lifespan in response to environmental…

New Book Investigates The British Roswell And Finds It’s More Like The UK’s Skinwalker Ranch #Paranormal

A new book by the award winning film-maker and author Mark Christopher Lee -looks at the history of the Rendelsham UFO incident of 1980 and investigates more recent sightings of UFOs, Orbs and Cryptids. In December 1980  US military personnel at RAF Bentwaters saw UFOs and beams of light in the forest and went to investigate. Some of them claimed to have had contact with a landed UFO which gave them coded messages – which were later deciphered as a message to warn the human race about the destruction of the planet. The book is  called The Rendelsham UFO –…

35 Memes That Are Strange as They Are Entertaining #Fun

The best things are a little weird. If someone is 100% normal it’s hard to trust them. It’s like, where are the bodies hiding? No, the best people, the best movies, the best foods are all a little strange at first glance. A movie where a clay man and his dog travel to the moon to see if it’s made of cheese? Peculiar indeed, but also one of the best pieces of children’s media of the last 50 years. Dipping a Lays potato chip in chocolate? Not the most expected snack, but a delicious one indeed.

The same goes for memes. The memes you remember aren’t the ones that immediately make sense. No, they are the ones that are just odd enough to pull you in. They have an unexpected humor. These are the memes that you want to send to your friends, so you can be in on the joke together. The ones below are just that.
