drive

21-year-old steals her 18-year-old step-brother’s car after he refuses to let her drive it to her friend’s birthday party: ‘He got his spare keys, took an Uber to the location, got in the car and drove it home.’ #Fun

The earlier you learn that life isn’t fair, the better off you’ll be. It can be incredibly emotionally difficult to see people in your family getting treated differently from you. Or better yet, seeing family members getting treated the same as you, but getting better results because of circumstances out of both of your control. It’s just not fair! But unfortunately, life is not, nor has it ever been, fair. The only thing you can control is your actions, and if you make the right choices enough times, you will be in a much better place in life than if you merely accept the station you were born into.

Life being unfair doesn’t mean you can do anything you want. You might see stealing money you feel entitled to as “righting a wrong,” but it is nothing of the sort. Stealing and lying are still wrong, even if you can succinctly justify why you did them.

‘I don’t know what happened’: Intern spirals after thinking she ‘crashed the company’ by deleting an important folder on the drive, only to have coworkers explain she only deleted a shortcut #Fun

There is no match to the adrenaline rush you feel after you find out you made a mistake that could very possibly cost you your job. Your heart starts beating fast, your ears are ringing, your hands are sweating, as you stare at your mistake and consider the two options you have–fight or flee.

Choosing to flee means that you will try everything to cover up your mistake. Sweeping any evidence and ties you may have for the problem you created, and acting innocent if anyone asks you about it. If you’re lucky, nobody will be able to trace this back to you. If luck is not on your side, you will have a lot of explaining to do.

Choosing to fight means you are ready to own up to your mistake and face the consequences, come what may. You will march to your supervisor, tell them what happened, and hope they will be understanding, and maybe even able to fix it. While some managers will see this mistake as a valid excuse to let you go, others might appreciate your honesty and allow you to stay. Either way, at least your conscious will be clean.

When the intern in the story below made what she thought was a huge mistake, she immediately fessed up to it. What happened next was beyond her wildest expectations…

Africa: Africa’s Power Pools – What the G20 Can Do to Help Countries Share Electricity #AfricaNews #Africa

[The Conversation Africa] South Africa holds the presidency of the G20 this year. The group is made up of 19 of the world’s largest economies, the European Union and the African Union. A priority of South Africa’s G20 presidency is African connectivity: promoting cross-border energy trade and regional power pools as a way to share electricity across borders on the continent. David Phaho and Steven Mathetsa of the African Energy Leadership Centre set out how South Africa could use its presidency of the G20 to drive regional

Mom demands 16-year-old take care of his 2 half-siblings and 5 step-siblings and share a room with 3 of them, gets angry when he decides to move in with his dad instead: ‘She told me now I was being extra selfish’ #Fun

Every day, I wake up grateful that I was not born into a family with too many siblings. My sister and I are two and a half years apart, and that is absolutely perfect. When I achieved a milestone, she was only a couple of steps behind me. My mom always remarks on how my younger sister wanted to start potty training immediately after I did. It’s nice to be in similar developmental stages as your siblings instead of constantly being surrounded by baby stuff. I would be kind of irritated if my house was still filled with toys, diapers, and baby products when I was studying for the SATS or learning to drive. Young children will always need more base-level attention than their older siblings, so it’s usually better for the older kids if their siblings are closer. Of course, birth order and time can’t always be meticulously planned or controlled.

25+ Memes for Busy Bodies #Fun

Some people thrive on being busy. If their schedules are not packed, then they fall to pieces. They need to cram so many events into a singular day or else their brains will self-destruct. Some people will crumble under unstructured free time. Their indecision will drive them mad when faced with an afternoon of nothingness. Tasks unfold one after the other, but with no shape to the day, they just won’t get done.

This is where the saying “If you want something done, give it to a busy person” comes into play. They’ll just squeeze it into their half-hour lunch break instead of spending all day thinking about doing it and then getting so caught up in a 30 Rock marathon that they never actually do it. But if that sounds like you, you still need some rest time, even if that means scheduling it out a week in advance.

Threats from Outer Space Might Be Fueling Conspiracy Theories #Paranormal

Tony Milligan: There are many home-grown problems on Earth, but there’s still time to worry about bad things arriving from above. The most recent is the asteroid 2024 YR4, which could be a “city killer” if it hits a heavily populated area of our planet in the early years of the next decade. The chances of that happening are now estimated to be around 0.001%. But there was a brief moment after the asteroid’s discovery last year when the estimated danger of a direct hit crossed the 1% threshold of comfortable risk. There’s a need to worry about planetary defence…

Turning Vanes inside the Altitude Wind Tunnel

In this February 1944 publicity photo, men stand in front of turning vanes inside the Altitude Wind Tunnel (AWT) at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics Aircraft Engine Research Laboratory. The AWT was the only wind tunnel capable of testing full-size aircraft engines in simulated altitude conditions. A large wooden drive fan, located on the other side of these vanes, created wind speeds up to 500 miles per hour.

If you’re a sports fan, you’ve dabbled in pondering hypotheticals surrounding the possible outcome of games. Countless games in the history of sport could’ve ended completely differently if only one referee call went in the other direction—or if the wide receiver had managed to hang onto that 4th down pass during the final drive of the game. The fate of the outcome of any given game balances on a razorblade at any given moment, which is a huge reason we find sport so compelling in the first place. Fantasy football is itself a way to contemplate—a playground for the hypothetical, “What if this blended group of teammates worked together in a mismatched hypothetical game? Who would win?”

Aliens from a parallel universe may exist, but we don’t know about it #Paranormal

New research suggests that while alien life may exist in our universe, the conditions here may not be the most optimal for its development. In 1962, American astronomer Frank Drake introduced the Drake Equation, a formula designed to estimate the number of detectable extraterrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way. As Popular Mechanics explains, the equation considers factors such as: – The average rate of star formation in the galaxy; – The proportion of stars with planetary systems; – The number of planets per star capable of supporting life. Beyond these, the equation also accounts for the likelihood of intelligent life…

Could Ocean Planets Support Life? #Paranormal

There might be a type of exoplanet without dry land. They’re called “Hycean” worlds, a portmanteau of ‘hydrogen’ and ‘ocean.’ They’re mostly or entirely covered in oceans and have thick hydrogen atmospheres, reports universetoday.com. They’re intriguing because their atmospheres keep them warm enough to have liquid water outside of the traditional habitable zones. If they do exist, scientists think they’re good candidates to support microbial life. Hycean worlds are hypothetical, but there is some evidence that they exist. The Kepler mission detected many candidates and provided foundational evidence for their existence. However, it didn’t detect any with certainty. More recently,…

Neuroscientist Teaches Lab Rats to Drive #Paranormal

Kelly Lambert: We crafted our first rodent car from a plastic cereal container. After trial and error, my colleagues and I found that rats could learn to drive forward by grasping a small wire that acted like a gas pedal. Before long, they were steering with surprising precision to reach a Froot Loop treat. As expected, rats housed in enriched environments – complete with toys, space and companions – learned to drive faster than those in standard cages. This finding supported the idea that complex environments enhance neuroplasticity: the brain’s ability to change across the lifespan in response to environmental…

Teenagers are rarely excellent drivers. Some kids have been driving with their parents out in the country since they were ten and have years of behind-the-wheel experience before they turn 16, but that’s the exception to the rule. There’s a reason why insurance premiums are much more expensive for 16-year-old boys compared to 25-year-old men. It’s no wonder my parents didn’t want to buy me a car when I was a teenager…could you think of a more high-risk financial investment?

Teen drivers are known to get into little accidents often. I tried to use industrial glue to glue my right door mirror back on my vehicle after I hit it with a tree on a particularly narrow road. Most kids will hit a mailbox or two during their driving years, but most probably won’t total a stationary vehicle in a parking lot and drive away. Unfortunately, the teens in this story are not “most kids.”

16-year-old student asks her mom to buy supplies for her science project 4 days in a row, refuses to drive to get it the day before the project is due: ‘Even with all my reminders that she still proves to be unreliable’ #Fun

Tell me if you’ve ever heard this story: It’s 10 PM on a school night. Kids are supposed to be in bed, but one of them comes downstairs to sheepishly tell their mom they need a poster board for their school project. You might ask when it is due, but you already know the answer. Of course, it’s due at 8 AM the next day. In a fit of totally justifiable rage, the mom asks their child why they didn’t tell her about this at the beginning of the week and then begrudgingly gets in the car to drive to Walmart so their irresponsible little darling doesn’t fail 8th-grade science.

While that is the most common iteration of this story, some parents don’t listen when their kids ask them to buy them poster board days and weeks before their project is due. Sometimes, kids have to beg and beg for the bare minimum help they need from their parents to complete their homework, and they don’t even get that.

17-year-old refuses to continue being a free nanny, private chef, and housekeeper setting boundaries after neglectful parents cross the line for 10 years: ‘What have they ever done for me?’ #Fun

Being a parent is more than just being a role model, you’re supposed to help your kid succeed in life by providing them with tools and wisdom to become independent adults. Hands-off parents would argue that a kid with lots of responsibilities will learn the fastest about the real world, but when to start treating your child like a nanny, a chef, and a house cleaner while you tend to your other children, you’re going to drive a serious wedge with the ‘easy kid’.

This teenager in our next story was forced to fend for himself his whole life, providing Cinderella-style services for his household to help keep the family afloat—until he finally refused.

As the older brother, u/Slight-Programmer-15, was no stranger to picking up a few extra responsibilities around the house. But when his younger brother became medically dependent on others it seemed like their parents decided their ‘easy child’ no longer needed parenting. Instead, they heaped on the chores and let him raise himself, only crawling back to him once he was old enough to employ for more complicated endeavors. Keep scrolling to read how this kid set healthy boundaries for himself and called his neglectful parents out at the same time when he refused their orders for the last time.

29 Driving Memes To Keep You Company When You’re Full Stop in Gridlock Traffic #Fun

Where the the folks with driver’s licenses, new drivers and old ones alike?

You’re pretty lucky. The very fact that we can hop in an automobile and go wherever we want is kind of sick. When you think about it, the invention of the car was monumental in travel inventions as the previous form of transport was a horse and buggy. I’m not sure I’m cool with a horse dragging my weight around, so cars are pretty rad.

Driving is less cool sometimes. You have the typical road rage-ridden drivers who always think they’re in the right, you have daily rush hour traffic that makes you feel like you’re never going to get home, and you have the price of gas. The three horsemen of the driving apocalypse. I can’t really speak for drivers because I grew up in New York City and don’t even have my permit. So, I guess all that I’ve written thus far is hearsay. Regardless, driving is freeing and hindering all at once—and I think that’s beautiful.

If you’re stuck in gridlock traffic or you just got home for 2+ hours on the road, consider browsing these driving memes that’ll rid you of road rage.
