The big 5-0. It’s an age that comes with many connotations. How do Australians really feel about reaching this milestone birthday? And is it all they expected it to be?
Read MoreIt’s officially that time of year when boat owners won’t shut up about their boats. Every conversation suddenly turns into, “How choppy do you think the water’ll be today?” or “I’m thinking about sneaking out of work early, just a quick ride, you know?” You’ll start to hear the word “overcast” used as a reason to cancel all plans and “the launch ramp was insane today” as small talk. Welcome to Boat Season, where your friend who owns a boat will make sure you know they own a boat.
But let’s not romanticize it too hard. Trailing your boat to the water, struggling at the launch while strangers silently judge your reverse skills, and realizing you forgot the plug (again) is all part of the charm. Still, as long as the sun’s out, the lake is calling and “boat” becomes not just a noun, but a full summer personality. Here are 24 memes to float your boat.
It’s difficult to understate how prominent and prolific Disney was in the 90s. They literally came out with The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan, and The Rescuers Down Under, all in one measly decade. Who does that? Not DreamWorks, that’s for sure.
I know I’m not the only one who thinks that the only reason that Shrek had the success it did was that it came out right after a decade of Disney’s dominance at the box office. Obviously, the point of the movie was to satirize the sanitized fairy tales Disney has always been known for. Even though I love Shrek and its sequels (and am anxiously awaiting the release of Shrek 5), I can’t help but admit that the corny ’90s Disney movies have aged better than the reference-filled orge film deriding the Disney Renaissance.
