Images of Pope Leo XIV standing on the island’s rocks and looking out over the sea circulated widely after the visit.After returning to the Vatican, the pope went to the ambassador’s residence for the evening meal. Photos released by the embassy showed Pope Leo XIV with Burch and members of his family.Burch, a Catholic and father of nine, is co-founder of CatholicVote, an organization that says its mission is to encourage Catholics in the United States to live their faith in public life through education, advocacy, and civic engagement.Burch presented his credentials to Pope Leo XIV as U.S. ambassador to the Holy See in September 2025.
